Exploration and Studies

Exploration for gold and other minerals in the Namosi area of Fiji (approximately 30 kilometres west of Suva) has taken place since the early 1970s. Since that time, several companies have been involved in drilling hundreds of exploration holes, primarily in the Waisoi and Waivaka Valleys.

The region is characterised by high rainfall, mountainous and rugged terrain, with rivers and tributaries creating deep valleys. The upper region of the Waisoi River valley is dominated by the steep Korobasabasaga Range. The entire region is densely vegetated with extensive forests. Access to exploration and study areas is by a limited road network.
